I'm new to all this, the forum and my sexuality. I dont really know why im here. I guess i really just want to connect to people who identify the same, because I have always felt a bit alien, without really knowing why, and I have this need to just... fit in for once. Maybe if I'm lucky, finally understand who the hell I am. Most of the time I feel ok about being asexual, but there are times when I just feel really isolated and alienated from everyone else, and then I get really down about it- but because none of my friends are asexual they don’t really get why. They have this idea that you have to be either straight or gay and i dont fit into that. I try to talk about it but that just brush it off and say im just confused and im probably straight. But i know im not. I know there is more to it then that.
For a while i have hated thinking i could possibly be ace or grey but i have come to terms with it more and now i want to embrace it but i dont know how or where to start. I guess im looking for help and people who i can trust to help me and intern let me help them.

Hi, and welcome here Smile
If I understand you well, you think you're asexual and in fact you're ok with it, it's just towards your friends and all, you feel that you don't "belong" ?

(by the way, you could say to your friends that between gay and straight, like between black and white, there are a loooot of things -_- like Bi, pan, ace... )

If your friends doesn't know or aren't aware of some things, it doesn't mean those things don't exist or aren't "real" ^^ (and fortunately I guess !)

Maybe they don't understand ace or grey or demi, but I guess they don't understand a lot of other things that exist for real... Like hard science stuffs, or just things in other cultures they can't even imagine !

So, based on that, you can be relieved about who you are or how you feel. You can read everywhere on internet or newspapers or magazines or books and all, about ace. You can read on internet about greys, demi, and you can fin enough stories to see it is real.

Maybe you could find a scientific article about asexuality and show it to your friends ? It could be a beginning, couldn't it ?

Welcome to the DG!

Sorry to hear that your friends are less than understanding about everything; perhaps you could link them to the resources here or at AVEN, to get the ball rolling with communication with them?

I've found very often that with my friends, it matters less that they understand what is going on with me, and it matters more that they understand how important it is to me. When they realize that it's a matter of identity and personal integrity, and that I'm taking it very seriously, they tend to be more open to listening. -Rosie
