Hello, DG!
Hey everyone!
Some of you might remember me from the AVEN forums under the same username.
Apparently I was accidentally influential in the term Demi coming about. A brief history, according to SonofZeal, another major player:
Le me is derping around on AVEN when I see the term "Gray A" and am not sure what it means. So I make a topic asking. At that time, I identify as asexual but am starting to question.
Le SonofZeal explains Gray A and Demisexuality. Suddenly the lightbulb goes on and everything makes sense. I pick up the term Demisexual and use it to identify.
Le me makes a post in AVEN asking if there are other demisexuals out there and trying to make us more visible to AVEN. It starts to catch on.
Le me creates facebook group and invites a few people. It starts to catch on even more.
Le me drops off of the AVEN forums as university work picks up, but mentions it at LGBT conferences at informational sessions and uses the demi identity to extrapolate information on orientation and attractions for all identities.
And then it started to spread, mostly through the AVEN forum topic and facebook page and circulating around the asexual community, to my understanding. And now the word and knowledge seems to be spreading faster than I thought it ever would by this time.
So... I think I might have accidentally had a role in the term rising to the amount of use that we see of it today. Which makes me kind of proud, actually. Proud of myself and especially proud of all you guys!
I always quietly hoped that explaining Demisexuality to the gender-sexuality majority would force people to reconsider their prejudices and preconceived notions of all gender-sexuality minorities. That acknowledging that emotions are such an important factor in sexuality that it can be the critical factor for an entire identity of orientation would force people to realize that sexuality isn't purely bodies or "choice" as the media and GSM-hostile pundits so often portray it.
So, that's me, that's what I hope that I'm accomplishing and more or less what I'm doing here. I think. I'd like to give a huge thanks to the creator of this forum as well as everyone who posts on it, moderates, and otherwise does their part to make this a strong and growing community!

Re: Hello, DG!
Thank you so much for joining us, OwlSaint!
I actually read the post in which the term "demisexual" was invented, and I remember seeing your near-immediate replies to it (back when I was a total-lurker on AVEN).
I'm very happy that one of the disseminators of the term has found our forum and approved of it. If SonofZeal ever wants to join, they are of course welcome, as you are.
It's a delight to have you here, and I hope you enjoy our community. ^_^
